The European union has plans to hit Putin with a new sanctions plan next week, this new sanctions package will include some form of ban on Russian oil imports and may also target a number of big Russian banks expelling them form SWIFT.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky once Russia's wealthiest man and former CEO of Yukos a Russian oil giant , is now Putin's #1 critic in exile. Khodorkovsky has told BBC that a western gas embargo would deal Putin "a very serious blow" stating that Mr. Putin would loose over half of his revenue.
With that being said we question weather Moscow could afford to continue the invasion of Ukraine after such a big impact in the federal budget.
