3D Pets is a New Jersey based startup company with the goal of providing your cherished pets with form-fitted prosthetics optimized for comfort. 3D Pets has six employees plus a dog, all of whom are dedicated to their craft. Their trademark 3D printed prosthetics are available for nearly any animal. In addition to dogs, 3D Pets have printed prosthetics for goats, ducks, a tortoise, and a pig.
The process to get your own prosthetic made is incredibly simple. The first step is simple. Take your pet into their studio in North Jersey, and 3D Pets scans it with an iPhone. The LiDAR sensor on the back of newer iPhone Pros allows for detailed 3D scans that can be easily imported into a computer. From there, someone will then refine a design to be printed for the animal.
They have many different 3D printers for different applications. As they explained in the interview by Marques Brownlee, they have everything between a consumer-sized Anker printer to an industrial 3D printer the size of a fridge. This is necessary, as every animal needs a differently shaped and sized prosthetic. As described in Marques' video, it appears that prosthetics will cost between $100 to $2000.
If a dog is missing one leg, it may seem alright externally. Usually amputee dogs are as playful as they would otherwise be, however slightly hindered by the lack of the one leg. Even though they seem fine, these dogs could get arthritis in the remaining limbs. Since there's one less limb, the other ones will have more strain placed on them. That is not good in the long term.
3D Pets is a company with great ideas and products. People need to think more about the health and feelings of their pets. Getting a pet (that needs one) a prosthetic is an amazing way to show how you care. By getting a 3D Pets prosthetic, you not only end up making your pet happier, but your pet will live longer, too.
