According to a press release, Apple just released their new M2 Pro and M2 Max. It is supposed to be 80% faster than the fastest, top spec'd, Intel MacBook, and 20% than the previous generation. Compiling in Xcode is supposedly 2.5x faster, and image processing in Photoshop is, again, 80% faster than the most top-of-the-line Intel based MacBook, and 40% faster than the previous generation.
The GPU is said to have 38 cores and 30% better graphics performance over the M1 Max. "Effects rendering in Cinema 4D is up to 6x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 30 percent faster than the previous generation," Apple stated. "Color grading in DaVinci Resolve is up to 2x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 30 percent faster than the previous generation."
According to WIRED, the CPU has 12 cores and is in not only the 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pro, which retail for $2,500 USD and $2,700 for the M2 Pro version and $3,100 USD and $3,500 for the M2 Max version, but also the new Mac Mini, which retails for $600 for the lower spec'd M2 version or $800 for the higher-spec'd M2 version, as well as $1,300 USD for the M2 Pro version.
Thanks to M2, the new MacBook Pros now are WiFi 6E compatible, and has an I.O that consists of three USB-C ports, HDMI, an SD card slot, a headphone jack, and a MagSafe connector. It also still uses Touch ID. Apple also claims that the now 22 hours of battery life is "the longest battery life ever in a Mac." They also discontinued all the M1 variants of the Mac Mini and MacBook Pro. Also, according to CNET, there will be no touchscreen, despite the rumors.
