Austin Tx just became the first city to pass the CROWN act witch is set to help eliminate hair discrimination across the U.S and potently worldwide. CROWN stands for "Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair". and was approved by the Austin city counsel June 9th.
The act will amend City Code and will revise the definition of "Discriminatory Employment Practice" and it will include protective hairstyles.
This means a hairstyle necessitated by, or resulting from, the characteristics of a hair texture or hairstyle commonly associated with race, national origin, ethnicity, or culture, - Fox7 Austin
The act also includes but is not limited to afros, bantu knots, braids, cornrows, curls, locs, twists, and hair that is tightly coiled or tightly curled. Austin officials state that this ACT will ensure that discrimination can and will be addressed before protections become introduced nationally.
