Elon Musk mentioned earlier in a tweet that Twitter will "finally stop adding what device a tweet was written on". He then continued stating that it's a "waste of screen space & compute below every tweet".

Elon also mentioned that no one knows why it even existed in the first place, within Twitter's Help Center it does state that "Tweet source labels help you better understand how a Tweet was posted". But if you think about it, it really is useless and doesn't offer anything useful in really any way.
