Recently with the iOS 16.2 beta, iPhone 14 users have had complaints about horizontal green lines when booting up. Apple says it's due to a software bug in iOS 16.2, and will be patched with an update, according to 9to5Mac.

Strangely, the problem doesn't happen consistently, but seemingly at random for the affected users. This is what one user had to say:

“I just got the iPhone 14 Pro Max this past Friday(12/9/22). I noticed that when the phone wakes up, horizontal lines flash on the screen. It does that randomly, not every time the phone wakes up. Sometimes it’s just 1 line, sometimes it’s multiple.”

What makes this even stranger is the fact that, according to the above quote, the number of horizontal lines differ. This is what another user said after going to the Apple Store to attempt to fix the problem:

“I took it to Apple, and they ran diagnostics, and everything came back fine (green). The technician told me that there isn’t an issue with the hardware, that it has to do the software.”

According to Forbes, there are a few things that affected users have tried to mitigate or eliminate the problem. They are as follows:

  • Turning off the Always On Display
  • Resetting the device
  • Rebooting
