According to a report by Windows Central, Microsoft is planning to change its Windows development cycle, the new development cycle involves releasing major feature updates every 3 years, as opposed to the current one year.

This won’t mean that Windows features will only be released every 3 years, as Microsoft is going to be releasing “Feature drops” multiple times a year , like what we’ve seen with the Weather widget rolling out without a major update, as well as the built-in apps getting updated to the Windows 11 design language.

This change will mostly be beneficial to users, with features being released within smaller updates instead of major updates that are often multiple gigabytes in size most of the time, as well as reducing the chances of stability issues because the Windows core won’t change as often.
