New macOS vulnerability may spell death for your computer, if you're not careful

Researchers over at Microsoft recently discovered a vulnerability in MacOS systems, specifically with the Gatekeeper security feature that is built-in. The flaw, codenamed "Achilles," will mess with the Access Control List (ACL) on your Mac, ultimately leading to attackers to be able to download and install malware on your system, according to BleepingComputer.

According to 9to5Mac, Lockdown Mode will not protect against this vulnerability. "Microsoft said on Monday that “Apple’s Lockdown Mode, introduced in macOS Ventura as an optional protection feature for high-risk users that might be personally targeted by a sophisticated cyberattack, is aimed to stop zero-click remote code execution exploits, and therefore does not defend against Achilles.”

The exploit, which was codenamed "CVE-2022-42821" by Apple, was patched on December 13, 2022, with updates to MacOS Ventura (13), MacOS Monterey (12.6.2), and MacOS Big Sur (1.7.2).
