New York City is requiring Lyft and Uber to go all-electric by 2030

Eric Adams, the Mayor of New York City, has delivered a State of the City speech and mentioned that Uber and Lyft will have to turn zero-emission by 2030. The decision will affect an estimated 100,000 vehicles belonging to Uber and Lyft in the big apple*. This is all in an attempt to electrify all the vehicles in New York City, along with adding many more car chargers throughout the five boroughs. It's also expected that similar rules will be applied to the taxi and limousine commission later on.

While Uber and Lyft usually take these rules to court if they don't like them, they seem to be excited about this new law. "We are excited to partner with New York City on our journey," Paul Augustine, Lyft's director of sustainability, said. "New York’s commitment will accelerate an equitable city-wide transition to electric, and we’re eager to collaborate with the TLC on an ambitious plan for a rideshare clean mile standard.." Josh Gold, who is the policy director at Uber, also applauded the idea. "We applaud the Mayor’s ambition for reducing emissions, an important goal we share..."
