The GT4 racing category is booming with new cars; there's the new Lotus Emira GT4 and the McLaren Artura from my little island, the UK. There's also the new BMW M4 GT4, on the new G8x platform and now there's Nissan, adding to the various choices small racing teams can pick from with the new Nissan Z GT4.

The new Z GT4 on the outside would confuse anyone for a tastefully modified road car with its large canards and high positioned rear wing, but upon looking in the interior it's an entirely different story, with only a portion of the dashboard retained. Gone are the multitude of displays, replaced with a single MoTec racing display showing all the essentials. a new XAP steering wheel is in place with a selection of buttons and knobs to change settings on the fly, such as power maps, brake pressure and more. Buttons and switches also extend to the centre console, which allow you to change ABS settings on the fly as well as other important tid bits.

Under the hood, it's still the same VR30DDTT twin turbo V6 as the road going car with a power bump to 450hp with the usual modifications for long stints like endurance racing. Nissan plans to have these cars ready for private teams by 2023, and I am excited to see this car in use in the British GT Championship and the Super Taikyu series; however at a cost of around $300,000, it comes in over $80,000 more than the Mercedes AMG-GT4, a already proven race-winning chassis. We'll just have to see how it performs in GT4 series to justify the cost
