Netflix started with DVDs. Later, they entered streaming and flipped the market uʍop ǝpᴉsdn and they kinda just stuck with that. Many people copied.

DVDs afterwards became a little charm of the site. Netflix owns the domain DVD.com, and it goes to Netflix DVD...or, did go to Netflix DVD. Now, the DVD site is simply staying up to download your data, as shown on their FAQ Site.

DVDs are how Netflix started, but Netflix claims they're not staying in the business because allegedly, it's hard to give quality service when there's low demand for said service. It's true that as we turn to streaming, DVDs, like cable, are slowly dying out. That in no way means there isn't demand, but look what happened to Blockbuster...once one thing picks up, the others usually drop.

Regardless, Netflix DVD (aka DVD Netflix, previously known as just Netflix) was a valuable service that many people still used and will miss. As a thank-you, Netflix is letting everyone keep the DVDs they don't wanna return & didn't charge anyone this month. But, if you wanna be a good person & help Netflix out by returning your rental, you only have a limited time to do so. We will not forget the service Netflix offered. As the service has come to a close, I have one final word to say to Netflix's DVD service... goodbye.
