Russian Journalist Dmitry Muratov  has actioned off his Nobel Peace Prize in order to raise money for Ukrainian child refugees. The auction ended and the item sold for $103.5 million Monday night shattering the previous record for a Nobel.

A spokesperson for Heritage Auction states that its currently unknown who the buyer is, however considering that the winning bid was made by proxy, the 103.5 million transaction translates to 100 million Swiss Frances, indicating that the buyer is from over seas.

“I was hoping that there was going to be an enormous amount of solidarity, but I was not expecting this to be such a huge amount,” - Dmitry Muratov

On a similar note: the last Nobel Prize medal was sold for $4.76 million back in 2014 when James Watson whose co-discovery of the structure of DNA earned him a Nobel Prize back in 1962.
