For the past couple days, the Midwest has been getting pounded by a winter storm that has knocked out power for hundreds of thousands of people. The storm is responsible for the death of a Michigan volunteer firefighter named Ethan Quillen. Michigan state police is investigating the incident as an accident.
More than 900,000 customers are experiencing power outages across the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, with most of the outages occurring in southern Michigan along the border of Ohio and Indiana.
30-40 MPH wind gusts are expected to sweep the region on Thursday night. A winter weather advisory remains in effect until early Friday morning for portions of northern New York and central and southern Vermont.
Wind Chill Advisories
There are Wind Chill Advisories in effect for the northern states of the Midwest, including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, North/South Dakota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. Wind chills have the potential to get as low as -35°F.
