YouTube may start forcing you to pay for premium to watch 4k content.

According to some reports, YouTube might make watching content in 4k exclusive only to premium subscribers. Multiple Reddit and Twitter users have started noticing that the option to watch 4k videos on the free version of YouTube has disappeared.

It seems that this has only rolled out in small increments as a more significant number of users have reported that the 4k option is still available. At this time, we can't really predict what YouTube's intentions are and it's unclear if they plan to move forward with their plan or not.

Currently, a standard YouTube Premium account costs $11.99 USD and that plan includes ad-free videos, background playback, and downloadable videos. if YouTube were to add 4k to this list, the price might increase significantly because it would make no sense to move a feature to premium without charging extra.
